Geodesic Dome

A geodesic dome is a spherical shell structure that was popularized by a professor in the United States named Buckminster Fuller. In 1967 at the Montreal World’s Fair a huge geodesic dome was built as part of the American Pavillion at Expo. In the lower mainland there is a large geodesic dome in Queen Elizabeth Park called the Bloedel Conservatory which opened in December of 1969. With lots of newspapers and masking tape we constructed a small geodesic dome in our classroom. It was made from 65 tubes of various lengths. The students were amazed at how strong and rigid the structure was considering it was made from newspapers. Three kindergarten classes visited our classroom to see our interesting structure.

  1. What an icredible feat of engineering for a grade 3 class. Well done everyone! I really enjoyed seeing your structure and I too was impressed by how strong it was.
