Lacrosse
This week the students will get one lacrosse session in the gym. It’s the oldest organized sport in North America, with its origins with the indigenous people of North America as early as the 12th century. Canada’s national winter sport is hockey and Canada’s national summer sport is lacrosse. I hope the class has fun learning about this exciting sport.
Tennis
When the students return to school in January we’ll be having a two week tennis program. They use children’s sized tennis racquets and large foam balls which makes it easy to learn how to play tennis. Our class will get five sessions over the two week period. I’m sure the students will have lots of fun and enjoy participating in this excellent program.

Happy Valentine’s Day
The Valentine’s Day mailboxes are quickly filling up. If you haven’t brought your Valentine’s Day cards please remember to bring them on Monday or Tuesday. A busy week ahead with Hip Hop practices and a school performance on Friday. Please try not to miss any school next week because we have Hip Hop practices every day. I’d like to wish everyone a wonderful Valentine’s Day.

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year
It will be a busy week in our learning community. For the Christmas concert, we have the tech and dress rehearsals, followed by the evening and matinee performances. Just a friendly reminder that all students need a Christmas hat. On Friday the students will be having a pancake breakfast in the gym. I hope all of the families in our class have a relaxing, fun, and safe Winter break.
A Letter From The North Pole
Burnaby Village Museum
The class went on a field trip to Burnaby Village Museum and participated in the Winter Wonder school program. Students rode the vintage carousel, visited a blacksmith, toured historic buildings and spent time in a silent movie theatre. A special thanks to the parents who drove and helped with supervision. Have a relaxing and safe Winter Break.
Public Speaking
Congratulations to all the students in Division 13 who presented their speeches in class. It’s clear that students spent a lot of time researching, writing, memorizing and practicing their speeches at home. It takes courage to get up in front of a group of students and deliver a speech. Public speaking is a skill that will serve you well in life.
Four students were chosen to share their speeches during the Public Speaking Festival in the gym. This involved standing on the stage, using the microphone and speaking in front of a larger audience which included judges, teachers, parents and students. Well done.
