Saturn – Titan ( Moon )

In Science we have been learning about Saturn and one of it’s more interesting moons. Titan is 1200 billion km’s from the sun and is primarily composed of water ice and rocky material. What scientists find so interesting about Titan is that it has a dense atmosphere. The climate—including wind and rain—creates surface features similar to those of Earth, such as sand dunes, rivers, lakes and seas ( probably of liquid methane or ethane ) and shorelines, and, like on Earth, is dominated by seasonal weather patterns. By studying Titan scientists can learn what Earth was like a long time ago.

For the past two-and-a-half years, a space probe called Cassini has looked at the moons and rings of Saturn and gazed down on the giant planet. Soon after arriving, Cassini even launched a second, smaller probe called Huygens, which touched down on Titan’s surface. The probe was designed to gather data for a few hours in the atmosphere, and possibly a short time at the surface. It continued to send data for about 90 minutes after touchdown. It remains the most distant landing of any craft launched from Earth.

  1. Wow I hope Titan does turn out to be another Earth. It has every thing an Earth needs, it has liquid water and has an atmophere simaler to Earths atmosphere.

    BYE!!!!

  2. Maya,

I’m glad you are reading the blog, good for you. Isn’t it interesting to know that there is a moon orbiting Saturn that has its own atmosphere! BYE!!!!
