Our Cratex Container

The Cratex container at our school is used to store our earthquake supplies and we decided to paint the container. First, we had to clean off the mold and mildew and then paint it with a metal primer. Luckily we had a lot of sunny weather during the month of September. After coming up with an idea and drawing the mural we were able to paint it over several weeks. We are now moving on to the second side of the container and hope to finish it before the start of the rainy Fall season. A special thanks to all the students who helped with this Art project.

Help Save the Polar Bears – By Emma

In class we have been using a program that allows students to create their own unique comics. They can add different backgrounds, characters and speech bubbles. Emma has created a comic about how to save the polar bears by taking better care of the environment. To view a full screen version of Emma’s comic click on the lower right corner and then the ‘Esc’ key to return to our class blog.

Vincent van Gogh – The Starry Night

The Starry Night is one of Vincent van Gogh’s most famous paintings and often referred to as his magnum opus ( think about the book Charlotte’s Web to remember what this means ). The painting shows the village of Saint-Remy under a swirling sky with a cypress tree in the foreground. Art historians think the painting is an example of the artist’s fascination with the nocturnal. The oil on canvas painting is hanging in The Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Snowboarder At Night In A Light Suit

The creativity of people never ceases to amaze me. Years ago, only a few people in Hollywood had access to the equipment and the funding needed to make a movie. However, today’s DSLR camera technology and websites like Vimeo opens the door for so many people to shoot and share their videos on the internet. When watching them, you begin to realize that there is a lot of incredibly talented people out there doing very creative things. For student’s it’s a very exciting time to live in. I wonder what creative things my students will be doing with technology when they are eighteen or twenty years old? I believe the possibilities are endless.

Below is an example of a very creative video. A snowboarder is skiing at night while wearing a light suit and when he turns the snow spray is lit from behind by the light from his suit.

Art Shoes

In Art students painted a foamcore background and an old shoe that they had brought from home. We then added lots of recyclable materials. It was a fun project that allowed students to express themselves creatively and they also learned that Art can be made from materials that many people would consider to be no longer useful. Each shoe is unique in it’s own way. A special thanks to the adult helpers in the classroom for this project. You can also watch the slideshow in ‘Full screen’ 720pHD version by clicking the button in the lower right hand corner of the screen.

Art Project – Mosaic

The students drew their own pictures and then outlined their drawings with a black felt marker. By tearing different coloured construction paper into small pieces and then gluing them onto their picture with their glue sticks they created a truly unique mosaic.
